"Bird of Prey" (1996)

Directed by Temistocles Lopez,Written by Boyan Milushev & James J. Mellon
CAST:Jennifer Tilly as Kily Griffith, Boyan Milushev as Nikolai (Nick), Richard Chamberlain as Jonathan Griffith, Lenny Von Dohlen as Johnny, Robert Carradine as Eric Parker, Lesley Ann Warren as Claire

The story is set in Bulgaria. Nikolai (Boyan Milushev) spent his most of adolescence and young adulthood in a prison for trying to revenge on his father's murderer, Jonathan Griffith (Richard Chamberlain), who is a boss of the American drug organization. In the prison he met a young American journalist Johnny (Lenny Von Dohlen) who was accused of his article on the relationship between Griffith and Bulgraian army. Two became friends, and after their getting out of the prison, they step out to avenge together on their same enemy Griffith. However, when Nikolai meet Kily (Jennifer Tilly), a beautiful daughter of Griffith, and falls in love with her, their plan starts to go wrong.

It was very interesting for me to see the film set in Bulgaria for the first time. However, I have to say that the story itself does not have much appealing points. The film starts with Nikolai's confession to a priest in the night before his death penalty (he says that he revenged on his enemy), so I could guess what would happen to Nikolai, Griffith, and Kily in the following story. The most serious problem is that I never feel empathy for the most of the characters at all, especially Kily, who is too naive and too ignorant about her father's business and wealth. Claire, who is a lover of Griffith and played by Lesley Ann Warre, is only one adorable character, but she does not play important role in the story at al.

Lenny (with beard) is Johnny, a young American journalist and only one friend to Nikolai.@Johnny joins Nikolai's revenge on Griffith, but his final goal is to shut down the whole drug dealing by American mobs in Bulgaria. He is a bit like a kind of terrorist.@

I enjoyed Lenny's scenes in the film, but I think that Johnny must have been more appealing person if his background and his inside feelings were described more deeply.
